We are the Castlemaine VCAL classes of 2015.

VCAL allows students to work at their level in a variety of ways to achieve outcomes. Students develop and expand their employability skills by participating in a variety of community partnerships. Year 11 allows the development of project team work in a safe and controlled environment while Year 12 VCAL sees the students work on community projects of their choosing to further enhance their confidence and skills.

Many students worked outside of their comfort zone. They negotiated with administration and worked with community mentors and community organisations to ensure tasks were completed. Combined with the skills they attained through VET, OHS and industry certificates, they have proved themselves competent workers who have developed a wide skill base.

Students can work at their own pace depending upon their level. The major Principles of VCAL are:

  • Hands on approach

  • Negotiating the curriculum to suit their pathway

  • Personal learning

  • Interpersonal development

  • Initiative
